Promoting Compostable Innovation at the CbDP Annual Meeting
Normec OWS recently participated in the annual meeting of the Compostable by Design Platform (CbDP), an important forum for promoting compostable materials in Europe.
On April 22, 2025, Normec OWS welcomed Flemish Member of Parliament Sanne Van Looy for a site visit to its headquarters in Ghent.
The discussion focused on current challenges in the field of waste, recycling performance, and the growing role of biodegradation in sustainable materials management. As packaging waste and plastic pollution remain high on the European agenda, science-based solutions are essential to support effective policy decisions.
A key conclusion from the discussion was that material innovation alone is not enough. While progress in the area of compostable and recyclable materials is crucial, behavioral change, clear communication, and a robust infrastructure for waste separation are equally important for achieving a real environmental impact.
With its expertise in biodegradability, compostability, and environmental testing, Normec OWS continues to support policymakers with reliable scientific data—thereby helping to bridge the gap between regulation, industry innovation, and practical implementation in the transition to a circular economy.
