Promoting Compostable Innovation at the CbDP Annual Meeting
Normec OWS recently participated in the annual meeting of the Compostable by Design Platform (CbDP), an important forum for promoting compostable materials in Europe.
Normec OWS is partnering with the FITI Testing & Research Institute to promote testing for biodegradability and compostability.
On March 14, 2025, Normec OWS, a leading organization in the field of biodegradability and compostability testing, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the FITI Testing & Research Institute (FITI) to support Korean export companies in obtaining certifications for biodegradability and compostability. The agreement was formalized at FITI’s headquarters in Seoul, strengthening the partnership in the areas of testing, certification, and research.

The signing ceremony brought together Joogyung Yoon, president of FITI, and Sam Deconinck, director of business development at Normec OWS, along with key representatives from both organizations. The partnership aims to improve testing services related to biodegradability and compostability for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Korea, enabling them to comply with international environmental regulations.
With extensive expertise in biodegradability, compostability, and environmental testing, Normec OWS helps companies worldwide obtain globally recognized certifications. Through this collaboration, both organizations will establish a structured framework for testing and consulting, enabling Korean exporters to meet the biodegradability and compostability standards required by various international markets.
In addition to conducting tests and providing certification support, Normec OWS and FITI will collaborate on international research projects in the fields of biodegradability, biogas, and related disciplines. They also plan to contribute to global standardization efforts, including participation in ISO initiatives, to further drive progress in sustainability.

“This partnership with FITI reinforces our commitment to supporting companies worldwide in achieving their sustainability goals through reliable biodegradability and compostability testing,” said Sam Deconinck, Director of Business Development at Normec OWS. ““By combining our expertise, we can provide Korean companies with the resources they need to meet global environmental standards and strengthen their position in international markets.”
As global regulations regarding plastics and sustainability continue to evolve, this collaboration represents a significant step toward facilitating environmentally friendly certification processes and promoting sustainable innovation in international trade.
Joogyung Yoon, president of FITI, stated: “This agreement lays the foundation for offering biodegradability testing and certification services to export companies in Korea that meet international standards. In the future, we will continue to support companies in obtaining environmentally friendly certifications, such as biodegradability, to help them comply with global regulations on plastics and circular economy policies, which will ultimately boost their exports.”
