As a global authority in fully integrated water management services for the oil and gas and maritime sectors, we often find that our customers are simply looking for a hassle-free way to comply with drinking water regulations.

The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) stipulates that: “Employers are required to maintain proper records of inspections, tests, and repairs of control measures.”

It is therefore crucial to be able to demonstrate that control measures have been implemented to prevent any form of potential bacterial growth or other types of contamination. This is important both for compliance with HSE regulations and for potential clients, to ensure that all offshore vessels and offshore installations are safe and free from any risk.

Most logs are often managed haphazardly in physical folders or using poorly designed web-based software. As the leading partner for preventing and mitigating water-related risks, OWM has developed a fully interactive database system for drinking water management, specifically designed for the offshore and maritime sectors.

With this specialized software, all tests can be conducted and managed simply, easily, and effectively. Monitoring data collected through the site-specific monitoring program is entered into OWM’s unique trend analysis software, after which a member of our technical team analyzes the data at regular intervals and provides you with comprehensive summary reports, including comments and corrective actions you can take.

Furthermore, thanks to OWM’s unique monitoring program, most harmful bacteria on board can be tested for and detected, enabling rapid corrective action. In addition, the common problems associated with sending samples ashore are eliminated. If your monitoring process needs to be updated, or if you’re unsure which tests are required to fully comply with local regulations, contact us today!

Knowledge and Compliance

At most facilities, the company physician is responsible for the daily monitoring of water quality, with checking water quality being part of his or her duties. In the past, this meant that water samples were routinely sent to onshore laboratories, which naturally had to be coordinated with the helicopter’s flight schedule. At many locations, this limits sampling to two specific days per week. In cases where urgent testing is needed outside these times, a costly special helicopter flight must be arranged; otherwise, the samples will be delayed. With this approach, the quality of the results depends entirely on the care and accuracy of the sampling process, as well as on the variable handling and logistics involved in transporting the samples to the testing site.

New Wastewater Legislation

On January 1, 2024, the long-awaited Environmental Act took effect, introducing several significant changes to the regulations governing wastewater discharges. Previously, all regulations regarding discharges were set centrally by the state, but with the Environmental Act, we are seeing a shift toward decentralization. What does this law entail, and what are the implications for companies that discharge wastewater?
